Fond Verette Page
Fond Verette is a village in the southeast part of Haiti, near the
border of Haiti and the Dominican Republic. It is a small
village that exists in a dry riverbed. In 2004, there was a
flood in Haiti that killed about 240 people in the village area.
Holy Cross Parish is centered there, and a priest there named
Father Belneau has helped get funding for the people to help them
rebuild. One of the projects that Father Belneau is
working on is to get land on higher ground to build homes. If
he gets $100 to buy each plot of land, a foundation will build houses
on the land. There are quite a few people that lost their
homes in the flooding. Most of the area where the homes were
is now covered by up to fifteen feet of rock.
